ADvTECH Education (Pty) Ltd changed its name to The Independent Institute of Education (Pty) Ltd (IIE) with company registration number 1987/004754/07 effective from 4 March 2005.
Therefore the following teaching divisions of ADvTECH Education (Pty) Ltd are now divisions of the IIE:
- College Campus,
- Rosebank College,
- Varsity College and
- Vega School of Brand Communication
The IIE registered with the Department of Education as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act in 1997. Its registration number is 2007/HE07/002.
However, the IIE also managed to secure provisional registration with the Department as a further education and training college under the Further Education and Training Colleges Act in 2006. That registration number is 2008/FE07/083. This means that the teaching divisions were deregistered as their registration was superseded by the registration of the IIE. |

The IIE is responsible for the academic governance and quality assurance of all programmes delivered through the teaching divisions on all their campuses as well as:
- the registration,
- teaching,
- assessment and
- certification
of all students registered for qualifications conferred by the IIE .
Higher education programmes offered by The IIE are accredited by the Higher Education Quality Committee of the Council on Higher Education and by means of memoranda of understanding by the sector education and training authorities involved. Further education and training programmes are accredited by sector education and training authorities under the auspices of Umalusi, the Council for General and Further Education and Training Quality Assurance.
